Ruth Ann Chapin, an Auxiliary volunteer at Northside Hospital Duluth, was awarded the prestigious Georgia Hospital Hero Award by the Georgia Hospital Association (GHA).
GHA recently presented the award to Chapin at a special event at the hospital. Chapin, who was one of only three individuals statewide to receive the award, was honored for her outstanding continued service as a hospital volunteer at the age of 94.
"Ruth Ann has donated over 9,000 hours of service to Northside Hospital Gwinnett and Duluth and has served as president of the Auxiliary three times,” said Jill Morris, volunteer coordinator, Northside Hospital Duluth.
"At 80 years of age, Ruth Ann jumped out of an airplane to promote the Heart Fund for the Gwinnett Medical Center Foundation,” Morris added. “She currently serves at the front desk of Northside Duluth and offers a smile and warm greeting to all who enter, and, at 94 years old, she inspires all of us with her respect and kindness for all."
“Ruth Ann Chapin’s longtime service as a hospital volunteer is truly remarkable,” said GHA President and CEO Caylee Noggle. “She has contributed literally thousands of volunteer hours and positively impacted countless individuals, including patients, hospital employees, and community members. We are grateful for her dedication, and it is an honor to present her with this prestigious award.”
