Northside Hospital recognizes employees who show extraordinary care to patients with the DAISY and BEE awards each month.
Nurses are recognized with the DAISY Award for showing above-and-beyond care to patients. Patients and their families, along with the nurses’ co-workers, have the chance to recognize these nurses for care that makes a difference.
BEE Awards — which stand for Being Extraordinary Every day — are given to staff members outside the nursing field who personify Northside’s goal to provide excellence in the patient experience. The award echoes the DAISY Award because every DAISY needs a BEE.
Meet recent winners of the DAISY Award at Northside:
Brea Henderson, R.N., Special Care Nursery, Northside Hospital Atlanta
What they said: “Our baby boy was admitted to the SCN and she has gone above and beyond to ensure we are informed and feel adequately prepared for all of the steps needed for caring for him. … She is kind, caring and gentle with him and it makes me feel comfortable trusting him with her when I am not there. … I am grateful that she is on our care team and that Northside has such compassionate staff looking after patients.”
Stephanie Laney, R.N., Family Centered Care, Northside Atlanta
What they said: “She felt like family, like a best friend who just jumped in to do your laundry and lay in bed with you to watch your favorite chick flick. She cried genuine tears with us for our daughter and exuded a level of compassion we’ve never experienced before.”
Sarah McLendon, BSN, R.N., Northside Hospital Gwinnett (photo above)
What they said: “It doesn’t take long for a patient to interact with her before they are instantly calm and cooperative and receiving the best care possible. … She is good. She is kind. She is everything it means to be a nurse. We are so lucky to have her on our team and the world is a better place with her in it.”
Naman Patel, LPN, Northside Hospital Forsyth
What they said: “I struggled the first few hours in the hospital, but in the morning this nice nurse came and he took time to listen to my concerns and he spoke slowly to me, facing, so I can understand. … He is an angel without wings. He made my stay smooth. He supported me and comforted me.”
Eoin Sevidal, R.N., Northside Forsyth
What they said: “From the moment Eoin walked in, I felt an immediate sigh of relief. Eoin is what a nurse should be and never failed to make me comfortable. He is the gold standard when it comes to what a nurse should be. … He goes above and beyond to provide friendship, health care and reassurance that has made such a significant impact on me.”
Meet recent winners of the BEE Award at Northside:
Kellie Dushner, DPT, physical therapist, Northside Forsyth
What they said: “She has made a huge difference in my life — my well-being, quality of life and happiness. … Words can’t express how much I appreciate her professionalism, her skill and her commitment to me personally. She is very pleasant and talks to me like I’m her friend, not a patient, teaching and caring for me as a person.”
Joan McNeil-Jones, patient care technician, Northside Atlanta
What they said: “She always came in with a smile and an encouraging word to try and help raise my spirits. … Every time she saw me in the hallway walking, she would always smile and ask how I was doing. She would ask about my family and give me more words of encouragement and then she would give me the warmest hug! These little acts of kindness and human connection mean so much to a patient when they are going through so much while in the hospital.”
Siera Robinson, clinical care associate, Northside Atlanta
What they said: “This staff member, an outstanding tech at Northside Hospital, provided such amazing care and compassion to my mom. Seeing her was one of the highlights of my mom’s day. … She generously shared knowledge and encouraged me so that I could feel confident as a caregiver.”
